Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has attracted transfer interest from Saudi Arabia but the newly minted Premier League champions have no plans to sell the Colombia star
Liverpool have no intention of selling Luis Diaz this summer. The Reds are yet to receive any contact from clubs looking to sign the Colombia international.
Diaz, 28, has just two years left on his current contract at the club and has been subject to numerous links this summer about a move away. Saudi Pro League sides Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal have both been linked with him as well as Spanish giants Barcelona.
But Liverpool are confused by the noise around the player’s future as they have had no contact about his availability.
He is an important player under boss Arne Slot and scored 17 goals last season in all competitions as the Reds won the Premier League title.
But there are also no plans to open contract talks yet with Diaz.
Diaz is set to be joined in the Liverpool attack by Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, once a deal is agreed with the German club. Liverpool have had two bids rejected so far for the Germany star. And former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes the club are right to be spending big on Wirtz as the Reds should “fix the roof while the sun is shining”.
They’ve already confirmed the signing of versatile right-back Jeremie Frimpong in a £29m deal from Bayer Leverkusen and are also closing in on Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who could cost them up to £40m.
Gerrard is excited and is confident that Liverpool will be the team to catch next season as they look to defend the title.
The Reds legend told TNT Sport: “Well, I think you've got to fix the roof while the sun is shining. We never had a big summer window last year, because we already had a team and a squad ready to challenge.
“But, if you want to go to the next step, it's important to keep improving, keep pushing.
“So [Jeremie] Frimpong is done and there's obviously a lot of rumours circling around, really good, talented players. So it looks like Liverpool are going to be the team to catch and I've got every confidence that they are going to get stronger next year.”
On Wirtz, he added: He is a big talent, he's done fantastic for Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. There's talk that there's going to be a really big signing, he's a big talent [with a] huge future in front of him, so Liverpool is the place for him, let's hope we can make it happen."
