Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano had no complaints after their defeat at Aston Villa on Thursday night.
Villa won 4-0 the quarterfinal second-leg to reach the Europa League semifinals 7-1 on aggregate.
Italiano said afterwards: "It was a very difficult task to achieve a comeback after the result of the first leg.
"We tried to challenge in a very tough game against strong opponents and we started well, but the first goal made it very difficult for us to turn the tie around.
"We are pleased with our growth from the experience we gained in the Champions League last season, and in the Europa League.
"Our first goal was to progress beyond the league phase and we did that and got through (two knockout phase rounds). We are disappointed with tonight's result, but it was a good achievement for us to get to a quarter-final."
