BILD: Nkunku - Bayern's top transfer threatens to collapse

  /  NuclearSA

A setback for FC Bayern 's transfer efforts for Christopher Nkunku (27)! According to BILD, the striker's move from Chelsea to the German record champions is in danger of falling through.

Nkunku's agent, Pini Zahavi (82), spoke with Chelsea bosses today on the sidelines of the Blues' 0-0 Premier League home game against Crystal Palace. He then had some bad news for the Munich club. The current trend: Nkunku (contract until 2029) will stay in London for at least another year, and the ties with Chelsea have hardened. Nevertheless, there is still hope, especially because, according to BILD, Nkunku himself would like to move.

Although the five-time English champions were actually keen to offload Nkunku, Bayern are far from written him off. Sporting director Max Eberl (51), in particular, is fully committed to a potential signing of the Frenchman. He has been negotiating intensively with the London club in recent days. Unlike the Woltemade poker game, Eberl is clearly the lead negotiator in the Nkunku deal—and not CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen (57).

The deal is at risk

According to BILD, Bayern only want Nkunku on loan, while Chelsea prefer a sale. The German champions had high hopes that Zahavi would announce positive news after today's meeting. That wasn't the case—quite the opposite! The deal is now seriously jeopardized.

Nkunku had been on Bayern's list for months. In 2023, he moved from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge for €60 million. Eberl wanted to sign Nkunku in the winter. At the time, however, the attacking star was too expensive – Chelsea were asking for €70 million, which was clearly too much for Bayern.

After the deal for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade (23) apparently fell through, Bayern's next transfer is in danger of failing. Following the departure of Kingsley Coman (29/for around €35 million to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia), the Munich team is in dire need of offensive reinforcements.

It is possible that the search will continue until the end of the transfer window on September 1st.
