In the Carabao Cup fourth round, Fleetwood Town defeated Arsenal 5-3 in a penalty shootout, pulling off an upset to advance. After the match, Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Jay Lynch told Sky Sports that Grimsby Town's victory over Manchester United last year greatly encouraged the team.

Jay Lynch said: "My voice is hoarse from directing the defense. The whole team performed exceptionally well throughout the match. To defeat the English champions, you have to commend these teammates.
Grimsby Town's win against Manchester United last year gave us a lot of encouragement, and we even drew comparisons to that match.
This was a classic Fleetwood Town night. We expected challenging conditions and knew the weather would be terrible, so we felt these conditions might work in our favor.
This is fantastic for the club and for this town. Honestly, it means everything to everyone."
