Reports have stated that Gomez is open to the idea of joining Milan before the end of the summer transfer window as the Italian side hunt for a new defender after selling Malick Thiaw to Newcastle earlier in the window.
Liverpool are close to signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi this summer, with a deal expected to be finalized later today. This puts Gomez in an awkward position as he seeks regular game time under manager Arne Slot.
However, despite being pushed out, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal for Gomez to make his way to the Serie A has been halted.
“Liverpool insist on no green light to AC Milan for Joe Gomez. Deal currently off.”
Just over 6 hours of the transfer window remain and The Reds will need to decide if they are willing to let Gomez go or keep him and have him play as a back up to Guehi. Palace asked about taking Gomez on loan on a separate deal, but Liverpool refused, suggesting that Slot has a need for Gomez who featured against Arsenal in their 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
