Man Utd transfer news: Two deals still planned after deadline

Manchester United still have work to do after the transfer window closed but completed a great deal of business over the summer rounded off by the addition of Senne Lammens

The transfer window is over and as Manchester United's stars head around the world on international duty, Ruben Amorim will be afforded the chance to assess his squad. The Red Devils signed six players for the Portuguese coach as they look to turn around their fortunes.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko make up a new frontline at a spend in the region of £200million. Amorim will hope he now has the goals to lift United much higher than last season's 15th place finish.

The club's work continued until transfer deadline day. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens signed from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m amid uncertainty around Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir after an error-strewn start to the season.

United also managed to offload much of their 'bomb squad'. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford departed on loan to Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively, while Antony joined Real Betis and Alejandro Garnacho got his move to Chelsea.

Only Tyrell Malacia remains from that group, and a solution could yet be found there. With that said, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours at Old Trafford.

Two more exits

Tyrell Malacia and Sam Mather could still depart Manchester United in the coming weeks. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12 and the Saudi Arabian window does not close until September 23.

Malacia saw a move to Elche break down but has already found interest in the Middle East for his signature. Meanwhile, Mather could secure a move to Turkey report MEN.

The academy winger attracted interest from Germany, Sweden and Turkey throughout the summer. United hope they can agree a permanent transfer for the 20-year-old but a loan, with an obligation to buy, could also be possible.

Transfer response

Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand offered a frosty response when asked about rumours linking him with Manchester United and Tottenham this summer. The midfielder was prepared to give the prospects any air come the end of the window.

"Now you say rumours. And I don’t relate to rumours," he said, per Ekstra Bladet, via Sport Witness.

“I have related to the fact that I should start at Sporting and get fit again after the holidays. I have come, and we have had some really good matches, where I think we have performed at a good level, even though we ended up losing at the weekend.

“I don’t really want to answer whether I have had anything specific to say.”

Ratcliffe stopped deal

Manchester United considered a move for Brighton forward Danny Welbeck this summer. United weighed up the prospect of signing their former striker after missing out on Liam Delap, according to the Athletic.

Red Devils chiefs debated a two-year offer for the forward, should they have been able to agree a fee with Brighton. They planned to add a low-cost player to complement a marquee signing.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe felt the club could not sanction a deal of that length however. A one-year deal with the potential for a further year was considered but ultimately an offer was never formalised.
