'Ambitious' Luis Enrique aiming to continue PSG's success in 2026

Luis Enrique is aiming to fulfil the needs of Paris Saint-Germain's "ambitious" supporters by replicating their 2025-26 trophy haul this season.

PSG started the new year with a 2-1 win over city rivals Paris FC on Sunday, with Ousmane Dembele's deflected 53rd-minute strike the difference at Parc des Princes.

Desire Doue had given the Parisiens the lead on the stroke of half-time before Willem Geubbels levelled from the penalty spot just six minutes after the restart.

It was a result that moved PSG to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Lens, while they have also now won six of their last seven league games (L1), after winning only two of their previous six encounters in the competition (D3 L1).

Luis Enrique's team remain in all domestic cup competitions, while they also sit third in the Champions League table ahead of the final two matchdays of the league phase.

They have already lifted the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup in 2025-26, ending 2025 as just the second European club to win six trophies in a single calendar year (after Barcelona in 2009).

PSG won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, Trophee des Champions and a first Champions League crown last year, and Luis Enrique believes they can repeat that feat this year.

"We came back to the Parc with a victory! We saw how difficult this match was, but in my opinion, we had a very good first half with lots of opportunities," the PSG boss said.

"I think we had lots of chances to score more goals. In the second half, it was more difficult, but in the end, we had to be happy because those are three important points.

"I hope we win as many trophies in 2026. That's our goal, which is ambitious, of course, but I think that everyone in this team, club, and our supporters are ambitious, too.

"We want to win trophies and that's what we're going to try to do."

Luis Enrique also marked his 100th domestic game in charge of the Ligue 1 champions by recording his 74th victory, a tally only bettered by Thomas Tuchel (78) after his first century of matches at the helm.

PSG also continued their impressive scoring form in Ligue 1. They have now found the back of the net in their last 41 home league matches (106 goals), their longest such run in the top flight.

And Doue got the ball rolling just before the break. He has now scored three goals in his last four Ligue 1 games, after failing to do so in each of his previous nine.

It was also the France international's first goal as a starting player in the top flight since April 2025 against Le Havre, and he echoed the thoughts of Luis Enrique when asked what his goals were for 2026.

"We knew it was important to win the first match of the year, especially since it was against Paris FC. A derby makes you want to win the match even more," Doue added.

"We were at home, the fans were there for us, and it's great to bring home the three points.

"I think that when you're playing against a low block, it's important to create danger: sometimes with passes, sometimes with dribbling.

"You really have to alternate and try to do everything you can to the opponent.

"My goal on the pitch is, of course, to play, perform and enjoy myself. I've always kept these goals in mind.

"2025 has come to an end, it's been an incredible year for the club and also a historic one. In 2026, we'll have to go out and win a lot of trophies again."
