On April 17th , according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona only invested 28.84 million euros in the transfer market this season, but 97 clubs worldwide had higher transfer expenditures.

Despite this, Flick's team is still steadily moving towards another La Liga title and narrowly missed out on reaching the Champions League semi-finals for the second consecutive year. Under extreme financial constraints, relying on a generation of talent emerging from La Masia, Barcelona still maintains top competitiveness.

Although financial difficulties prevent Barcelona from making unrestricted transfers under La Liga's 1:1 rule, the team narrowly missed out on reaching the Champions League semi-finals for the second consecutive season. The strength of the La Masia youth academy is still the envy of the world because it has cultivated a generation of amazing players, led by the only 18 -year-old Yamal.

Barcelona is marching towards its second consecutive league title and its third in the last four years - even though they have to face Real Madrid, who just won the Champions League and La Liga two years ago and signed Kylian Mbappe. Barcelona hopes to increase investment this summer to improve the quality of the team's lineup. It is a great achievement to only spend 28.84 million euros on transfers this season and still remain in the top ranks.

The media said that if this negligible number is considered in the global ranking of transfer investments in the summer and winter windows, its significance will be even more prominent. According to data from Transfermarkt website, 97 clubs this season have transfer expenditures exceeding Barcelona, with as many as 39 breaking the 100 million euro mark .

Barcelona only paid the transfer fees for Joan Garcia (activating the 25 million euro termination clause in his contract with Espanyol, plus 1.3415 million euros for CPI adjustments) and Bardghji (paying Copenhagen 2.5 million euros), with the total amount fixed at 28.84 million euros. This number is a far cry from those giants that Barcelona must compete with in Europe year after year.

To provide context, here is the distribution of the number of clubs with transfer expenditures exceeding Barcelona: England 27 (accounting for 10 out of the top 11 ), Italy 16 , Germany 10 , France 9 , Saudi Arabia 6 , Brazil 5 , Spain 4 (Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Villarreal and Betis), Portugal 4 , Turkey 4 , Netherlands 3 , Greece 2 , Russia 2 , and Belgium, Scotland, the United States, Ukraine, Qatar and Argentina 1 each.

In the 2025-26 Champions League top four, Arsenal ranked fourth globally with a transfer expenditure of 294.6 million euros to create unfathomable squad depth; Atletico Madrid ranked ninth with 229.95 million euros; Paris Saint-Germain ranked thirty-fourth with 112.1 million euros; Bayern Munich ranked forty-seventh with 88.8 million euros. Bayern's expenditure included 70 million euros to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool .

The Colombian winger scored in both legs of the quarter-finals, becoming the terminator of Real Madrid. He was the first choice for Barcelona's technical department led by Deco to strengthen the left wing attack. In the end, after Nico  Williams took the initiative to show his favor a few days later and said " no " , Barcelona introduced Rashford from Manchester United on loan.
