Match Report

It looked like the game would belong to Harry Kane, who orchestrated the comeback after Eberechi Eze – an early replacement for the injured Bukayo Saka – opened the scoring.

Kane set up Alphonso Davies' equaliser before netting from the penalty spot, but Rice finished off a pacy move down Arsenal's right to take a share of the spoils.

Serge Gnabry had the first clear opening, with Kane launching a goal-kick over the top to Davies, who squared it into the middle. Ismael Saibari helped it onto Gnabry, who tamely shot at David Raya.

But it was Arsenal who broke the deadlock 25 minutes in, as Eze latched onto Martin Odegaard's wonderful pass to slot under Manuel Neuer into the bottom-right corner.

Their lead lasted just 10 minutes, though, with Kane once again showing his range with a lovely throughball for Davies to chase, and he coolly curled past Raya while one-on-one.

It was a frenetic start to the second half, with Neuer making a point-blank save on his line to tip Bruno Guimaraes' header onto the crossbar, before Raya pushed away Dayot Upamecano's effort at the other end following a blistering counter-attack.

Eze almost got a second goal when he skipped through the left of the box before trying his luck from near the byline, but Neuer was once again equal to it.

Kane was then at the heart of Bayern's second goal in the 61st minute. His shot was blocked by Jurrien Timber's arm, and the former Tottenham man stepped up from 12 yards to emphatically finish past Raya.

Kai Havertz saw a poked effort blocked on the line before Luis Diaz's curler was well-saved by Raya, and that set Arsenal up to find their 82nd-minute equaliser as Rice raced onto Viktor Gyokeres' lay-off to drill into the bottom-left corner.

Timber, looking to make up for conceding the earlier penalty, could have won the game in the 91st minute, but Neuer got a strong hand behind the bending shot to keep it level.

Kane denied three points after haunting his familiar foe

Kane has always enjoyed playing against Arsenal, but could not prove the difference despite scoring his 16th goal against them – only versus Leicester City (20) has he scored more.

This is the ninth Champions League match in which he has both scored and assisted, two more than any other Englishman has managed.

Kane is also just the second player to score in 10 consecutive Champions League appearances, along with Cristiano Ronaldo from June 2017 to April 2018 (11).

The 33-year-old was showing off all of his attributes with some incredible passes opening Arsenal up. Only Barcelona's Lamine Yamal (10) has set up more goals in Europe's big five leagues in all competitions than Kane (seven) this term.

Arsenal started well, though, especially considering Saka's early exit, with Eze getting a much-needed goal. He scored the earliest goal by a substitute in a Champions League game since Junior Adamu in February 2022 for Salzburg – also against Bayern (21st minute).

And they finished strong after riding the pressure. No Premier League side has had more goal contributions from substitutes in all competitions this season than Arsenal (five goals, four assists).

Rice scored his sixth Champions League goal, but his first-ever away from home, and in the end, it was a fair result with both sides preserving their unbeaten starts to the competition.
