The Brazilian national team announced its starting lineup for the FIFA World Cup round of 16 match against Japan. Five players were over 32 years old, and the average age of the 11 starting players was 29 years and 245 days.

According to Opta statistics, this is the second-oldest starting lineup Brazil has fielded in a FIFA World Cup knockout match since records began in 1966, surpassed only by the Samba Boys' starting XI against France in the 2006 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals, which averaged 30 years and 31 days.
