Rio Ferdinand has again taken to social media to comment on the dispute between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portugal coach, stating bluntly that the coach must apologize to Ronaldo or risk being sacked.

Ferdinand said, "The coach has to come out and apologize... otherwise, he's eventually going to get sacked. He has to say publicly, 'Listen, I got this situation wrong.'" This comes despite the coach explicitly stating at a press conference following the team's victory over Norway at the Estádio do Dragão that he did not need to apologize to anyone.
Ferdinand compared the situation to that of Roberto Martinez: "All of this could have been avoided with good communication. I said the same thing during the World Cup when Roberto Martinez was in charge, and I hold the same opinion about this coach now. They have to sit down and talk to Ronaldo, tell him, 'This is what I want to do. If you don't want to be involved, let me know, but this is how things will go.'" Ferdinand believes the Al-Nassr player will make a return to the squad.
Ferdinand posted on social media: "Ronaldo's future with Portugal needs to be addressed! Poor team communication, lack of respect. Losing fans every day!"
Ferdinand concluded: "He still has a role to play, I believe that. The question is whether he's starting, coming off the bench as a super-sub, or starting some games and coming off the bench in others. That's the conversation that needs to happen, and then just stick to what was agreed. These coaches are paid to manage the team, but also to manage the players."
