Peter Crouch believes that Liverpool won't sack Arne Slot even if they miss out on Champions League qualification

Liverpool have been given clear reasons why Arne Slot should remain as head coach even if the club fails to secure Champions League football. The Reds currently sit sixth in the Premier League and face a tough challenge to break into the top four.

On Saturday evening, Liverpool took a breather from domestic league duties, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Brighton in the FA Cup.

The club has now bounced back from their frustrating loss to Manchester City last weekend with consecutive clean-sheet victories, though they remain three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the league standings.

Liverpool still have genuine hopes of lifting silverware this campaign, with an FA Cup fifth-round clash on the horizon alongside a Champions League last-16 tie.

Yet former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has shared his thoughts on Slot's position at the club, especially should the campaign end without any trophies, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Crouch has outlined why Liverpool's approach over the years suggests a managerial change is out of the question, even if they miss out on Champions League qualification. He did, however, warn Slot regarding the next term.

“It’ll be a disappointing season if Liverpool miss out on the Champions League places,” Crouch told Paddy Power.

“Liverpool isn’t the kind of club that would sack a manager because of that, but Arne Slot will need to start next season well. When you win the league in your first season, you deserve some grace. There needs to be more promising signs.

“Finishing outside the top four or five with no trophy is a really disappointing season without a doubt. Do I think Slot would get the sack for it? Probably not.”

Slot was asked recently about his position at Liverpool, especially if the club misses out on Champions League qualification, with the Reds currently down in sixth.

"That is a difficult question for me to answer because I don’t decide on my future," Slot said before Liverpool’s win over Sunderland in midweek. "The only thing I do know is that it happened before and recently and it didn’t affect the future of that manager.

"But that doesn't guarantee anything, of course. In general, managers, especially at this club - maybe somewhere else - it is not only about results. Mainly, but not only.

"At some clubs they also look at the progress the players make, the progress the team makes, the circumstances are sometimes taken into account.

"That is not at all clubs, but I think I am working at a club that does look at those things, as it has shown in the past when the club did not qualify for the Champions League."
