Manchester United fans are planning a protest before Sunday's home match against Manchester City, and Manchester City fan groups have expressed their support, according to unitedinfocus.
The Manchester United fan group "The 1958" has called on fans to protest against the club's management after the club's attempts to crack down on ticket touting led to innocent season ticket holders being affected.
Manchester United will play Manchester City at home on Sunday, and fans attending the match are invited to gather at the "Bishop Blaize" pub before the game for a peaceful protest.
Manchester City fan group "The Citizens Trust" stated that 99% of its members want to show solidarity with other fan groups facing club-related issues. The group declared its full support for "The 1958" and all actions taken by Manchester United fan groups, and warned Manchester City fans that they could be the next group to be similarly affected.
"The Citizens Trust" posted on social media: "In our first member survey, 99% of members wanted us to express solidarity with other fan groups facing club issues. Therefore, we 100% support @The__1958 and any actions taken by all Manchester United fan groups. This could happen to us."
Liverpool had previously conducted similar investigations into ticket touting and used third-party AI software to identify those involved, but this was also met with opposition from fans.
Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United have all raised ticket prices for the 2026/27 season, while Manchester City has frozen ticket prices for the third consecutive season. Manchester City stated that not raising prices was "in consideration of the cumulative impact of current cost of living pressures on fans and their families."
This week, Manchester United sent text messages to season ticket holders, asking them to purchase tickets for the first Champions League match of the season against Shakhtar. Season ticket holders who had previously signed up for cup competitions and did not purchase tickets might lose their seats for a future Premier League match.
The message read: "You do not have a ticket for Thursday's match against Shakhtar, please do not go to Old Trafford. You can still buy tickets here. If you do not buy tickets, your season ticket will be suspended for a future Premier League match, which may also affect your eligibility for away games."
United In Focus stated that they interviewed several affected fans. Some fans reported problems with the club's website payment system, and that the ticket office did not provide sufficient support.
