Manchester United's inaction in the transfer market has been criticised as the Red Devils look to sign more players for Ruben Amorim in the remaining weeks of the window
Manchester United have been slammed for not making more astute signings this summer in their bid to turnaround their fortunes under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League last term and are hoping for a much-improved campaign in 2025/26.
United have already spent in the region of £130million to land Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, while Diego Leon arrived this summer after a deal was agreed for the full-back earlier in the year. Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicolas has been left aghast that the team have not tried to work smarter in the transfer window and reckons they should have been in the race for Arsenal signing Christian Norgaard.
Amorim's captain Bruno Fernandes has called on the club's hierarchy to make more signings as the new season approaches. The Portugal star believes more reinforcements are required.
“We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up," said Fernandes. "I think that’s what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.”
Nicholas reckons United have missed out on a good opportunity in the form of Norgaard, and have been caught sleeping in regard to Aaron Ramsdale too.
"There are a lot of players out there, a whole list who I think would be better than what Manchester United currently have,’ Nicolas told Sky Bet. "I just don’t know where they see themselves going. If I was Manchester United, why didn’t they go in for Christian Norgaard?
"It looks as if they’ve waited for two high-profile players, but I look at them and I think, why are not adding more players like Norgaard, or players who have played well at Bournemouth and Newcastle – you could disrupt things and see who’s interested.
"There are so many pillars I just can’t understand – the whole lack of authority defensively and what is the current situation with the goalkeeper?
"Why don’t they go and get Aaron Ramsdale? He’s qualified, he knows the circuit, he’s English, experienced, and competitive. I know Ramsdale hasn’t won too much, but it’s not far off what United have won.
"I just don’t see how they see what an upgrade means. I don’t see Manchester United fans showing one bit of excitement as it stands right now, and it’s getting close for them to get aggressive towards the club again."
