Matthaus: German FA must compromise with red bull to get Klopp

  /  autty

Although not yet officially announced, German media believes that Jürgen Klopp's chances of becoming the head coach of the German national team are increasing. However, there are still several issues that need to be negotiated between Klopp, the German Football Association (DFB), and his current employer, Red Bull.

In his show "Lothar legt los," host and deputy sports editor of Bild, Kali Unterberg, asked Matthäus: "One solution might be for Jürgen Klopp to continue as a Red Bull brand ambassador, because for Red Bull, this is more valuable than the DFB paying a termination fee. Frankly, with Red Bull's billions in turnover, they can certainly forgo the few million euros in compensation from the DFB. "

"But if you can have a German national team coach as a brand ambassador, this brand value is obviously higher. My question is: can a national team coach wearing a Red Bull cap sitting on the German team's bench be imagined?"

Matthäus replied: "Nowadays, anything is possible. I think if the DFB really wants Klopp, they have to make some compromises. This is not something Jürgen alone can decide, nor is it something the DFB can decide unilaterally. Because Jürgen has a contract with Red Bull until 2029, and there are no termination clauses—I emphasize, no termination clauses, nor any probationary period or other special agreements in the contract. "

"If Jürgen leaves the Red Bull group, Red Bull will undoubtedly lose a very influential brand ambassador. So, based on my understanding of Oliver Mintzlaff, I think even if this decision is ultimately made, Red Bull will certainly want to benefit from it."

Therefore, Matthäus even believes that in future German team matches, it is entirely possible to see Klopp wearing a Red Bull cap, or even a T-shirt with the Red Bull bull logo, on the German team's bench.

He then explicitly stated: "I think for the DFB to get Klopp, they must make compromises. As you just said, this is no longer a matter of Red Bull losing a few million euros, but about their brand image. Red Bull has built an entire project around Klopp and invested a lot of resources in him. Moreover, they have invested not only in Klopp personally but in the entire development direction and strategy. Therefore, they certainly hope that Klopp can continue to be Red Bull's brand image representative in the future."
