Recently, in an interview, Paul Merson stated that even if Arsenal were to miss out on a trophy once again this season, Mikel Arteta would not be sacked as a result.

Rooney stated this week that if Arsenal fail to secure silverware this season, manager Mikel Arteta may well be dismissed by the club.
Rooney remarked: "Arsenal's current squad possesses considerable strength, and in my view, they've accumulated ample competitive experience. They're now very close to achieving success – I believe they're ready. Therefore, should they still fail to clinch a title, you'd likely witness a managerial change."
When asked for his thoughts on Rooney's remarks, Arsenal legend Paul Merson offered a starkly different perspective, stressing the importance of considering the team's broader context.
"What I'd say is, if Arsenal end up with a high points tally – say around 90 – only to be overtaken by another side, then you might well ask: 'What more could they have done?'"
"Remember, in the Champions League, all sorts of unexpected things can happen. For instance, a team might reach the final or semi-finals only to lose because of a goalkeeper's mistake on a clearance, or a red card awarded after an opponent breaks through. There are many ways to lose, and many reasons for missing out on the title."
"Many forget that just five years ago, Arsenal were mere also-rans. Before the season began, the team held no realistic hopes of challenging for the title, struggling instead to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. Arsenal have indeed worked tremendously hard. Their transformation into a major Premier League contender is entirely down to Mikel Arteta."
"Arteta's achievement lies in forging a united squad while maintaining productive relationships with every sporting director appointed since his arrival. Through subtle yet effective management, he has built a formidable team. Presently, every position in the squad boasts two outstanding players."
