Modric 'will return' to Real Madrid, claims Suker

Croatia legend Davor Suker believes Luka Modric will return to Real Madrid this summer, having spent just one season at AC Milan.

Modric left Madrid at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, bringing down the curtain on his glittering 13-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

During that time, he won four LaLiga titles, six Champions Leagues, five UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups, among his 28 major honours.

Overall, he made 597 appearances for Madrid, racking up 88 assists, a tally bettered by only Toni Kroos (93) and Karim Benzema (118) during that time.

When Modric joined Milan last July, he signed a one-year deal with the option for an additional year. However, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League after a late collapse, which then prompted a major overhaul, which included the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.

Some reports have suggested the Croatia captain could even retire following the World Cup, but Suker still expects Modric to return to Madrid, either on the pitch or off it, in some capacity.

"Now you'll ask me whether he'll continue at Milan or return to Madrid. I think something will happen with Real Madrid," Suker told Radio Marca, as quoted by Football Italia.

"Surely, he will return, but I don't know how. Let's wait for the end of the World Cup and see what happens.

"I can't say more, I can't say more. Leave something a bit in the air; I can't say it all."
