Monterrey looks to MLS as Rayados still seeking to strengthen

The transfer window has not yet slammed shut in every corner of the globe, and there are still clubs around the world who are racing to finalize their squads for the season ahead. Among them is Monterrey’s Rayados, who are actively exploring international options to add one final piece to their roster - someone who can complement Sergio Ramos and the rest of the squad.

Rayados have turned their attention to Major League Soccer (MLS) in search of a forward with the kind of presence and finishing ability they feel is currently missing. This renewed push comes after their pursuit of Getafe striker Borja Mayoral fell through.

Who are Rayados chasing?

Veteran journalist Willie González recently reported that one of the names on Rayados’ shortlist is Brazilian striker Rafael Navarro. While an agreement had reportedly been reached with the Colorado Rapids, negotiations stalled due to Navarro’s high salary demands. As of now, the deal remains unresolved.

According to ESPN, another target under consideration is Croatian forward Petar Musa, currently with FC Dallas. Musa’s profile fits the bill for head coach Domenec Torrent’s system, and while there’s confirmed interest from Monterrey, no formal negotiations have taken place yet.

Meanwhile, RG La Deportiva in Monterrey has stirred speculation with reports that Rayados may be considering a move for Inter Miami’s Uruguayan star Luis Suárez. The veteran striker could be open to offers from abroad if he faces disciplinary action in MLS following an incident in the Leagues Cup final, where he allegedly spat at a Seattle Sounders assistant coach.

While the interest in Suárez may be genuine, a move to Monterrey appears unlikely at this stage. The nature of his potential suspension remains unclear, and his future may be tied to Lionel Messi, who has yet to renew his contract with Miami. Should Messi depart, Suárez could follow his longtime friend, according to Bolavip.

For now, Rayados will take advantage of the FIFA international break to rest and regroup as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season - where they currently sit atop the standings.
