Former AC Milan fullback Giuseppe Pancaro is encouraged by the changes made this season.

The additions of sporting director Igli Tare, coach Max Allegri and veteran midfielder Luka Modric has Milan heading in the right direction, says Pancaro.

He told TMW: "Milan had strong ownership, a consolidated corporate structure over the years, which allowed them to gradually build their status as a team capable of winning in Italy and Europe.

"This was achieved by focusing on the continuity of their management and by building a winning mentality. The current team is still seeking a consolidated structure, but there is one important step to remember..

"Milan had already tried with (Paolo) Maldini, and in my opinion it went very well: Maldini had done an extraordinary job, managing to recreate what they had created in the (Silvio) Berlusconi, (Adriano) Galliani, and (Ariedo) Braida era.

"Milan made the wrong decision to let him go, and now they've started again with (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic and Tare, who need time.

"The start is positive, with Allegri proving he can win in Italy. A champion like Modric is still extraordinary despite his age. It's still too early to say where this AC Milan can go."

Asked about rumours of former vice-president Galliani returning, Pancaro added: "It would simply be an added value for AC Milan. He would bring all the experience he's accumulated over many years of football. He also knows the Rossoneri world very well, where he's won by building from scratch."
