Real Madrid optimistic as Dean Huijsen red card appeal submitted

Real Madrid may have won at Real Sociedad on Saturday, but there was a lot of fury about the decision that saw Dean Huijsen sent off at the Reale Arena. Xabi Alonso was adamant that referee Jesus Gil Manzano made the wrong decision, but in the end, the young defender was forced off inside the first half at the Reale Arena.

Real Madrid managed to survive without Huijsen for the remaining minutes as they went on to secure a 2-1 victory, but his red card means that he will not be able to play against Espanyol next weekend. However, there is hope that his suspension will be overturned.

As per Diario AS, Real Madrid have signalled their intention to appeal Huijsen’s red card to the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee – and without the club, it is taken for granted that the suspension will be lifted later this week.

The primary reason for Real Madrid being clear that Huijsen’s suspension will be overturned stems from the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), whose sources have admitted that Gil Manzano’s decision to sent off the Spain international was the wrong one. However, they also stated that VAR was right not to intervene, as it was not considered to be a clear and obvious error made by the on-field referee.

In the coming days, the Disciplinary Committee will hear Real Madrid’s case against Huijsen’s red card, after which it will be known whether Alonso will be able to count on his undisputed defender for the match against Espanyol, which takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid’s appeal will be successful – they will be hoping so anyway, given how important Huijsen is to Alonso’s plans.
