Manchester City midfielder Rodri has admitted that he would be open to a move to Real Madrid in the future.
Rodri, who is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury, is under contract at City until 2027.
The Ballon d'Or winner was asked about the possibility of joining Real and hailed the Spanish side as 'the best club in history'.
However, Rodri insisted that he is settled at City, especially after manager Pep Guardiola signed a new two-year contract extension.
Rodri made just two league appearances this season before suffering a cruciate ligament injury that is expected to see him miss the remainder of the campaign.
The Spain international has made a tremendous contribution for City since he joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
When asked about potentially joining Real Madrid, Rodri said in an interview on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero: ‘When Madrid, the best club in history, the most successful, call you, it is an honour and you always have to pay attention.’
Discussing his current situation at City, Rodri stated that talks will soon be held regarding his contract.
Rodri admitted that he feels 'very valued' at City but indicated that he could return to Spain in the future.
He said: ‘I have two years left on my contract, the time is approaching to start talking again.
‘The Guardiola deal is an important incentive. I feel very valued at the club.
‘It could very well be a possibility to finish my career in England. It has given me everything and I love the football there.
‘But Spain is my country. I always pay attention to the league, the level of the teams is getting better and better.’
Rodri was also asked which club he would like to retire at and revealed Villarreal, the club where he started his senior career, could be a potential destination. He said: ‘Villarreal would be a good place.’
During his time at City, Rodri has won an array of trophies including the Champions League, four Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Real Madrid players refused to attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony last month after discovering that Vinicius Jr had lost out on the award to Rodri.
