Van Dijk: Slot is furious. It's reasonable because we played terribly

In the 29th round of the Premier League early this morning, Liverpool suffered a 1-2 away defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After the match, Virgil van Dijk stated in the mixed zone interview that Slot was furious and the team's performance was unacceptable.

How did Slott react in the locker room?

“Yes, he was furious. And rightly so, because we played terribly. We showed more urgency in the second half, but it still wasn't good enough. This is extremely disappointing. We must learn from this and turn things around.”

“But it's hard for us to accept, and it's hard for the fans to accept. We'll be back here on Friday for the FA Cup, hoping to progress further in that competition. On Friday, we must come here with a completely different level and performance.”

How might missing out on the Champions League affect the club's summer transfer operations?

“It will absolutely have an impact. The stakes are incredibly high. If you play for Liverpool, it's always been like this. We have to work together with the fans to achieve the results needed for Champions League qualification. We're now at a decisive stage. We must give everything we have. We have to accept all of this, no matter how hard it is to swallow.”

On the team's performance

"Based on how we played until they scored the first goal, we deserved to be 0-1 down. We played terribly. When we had the ball, we were too slow, too predictable, and made poor decisions. Before that, we hadn't given them any clear chances."

“Defensively, we remained solid. But late in the game, when it opened up, any team can become dangerous—and that's exactly what happened. The first goal came from a mistake when we tried to play out from the back, leaving a huge gap.”

“We still had ample time to turn things around. We equalized, but then the game descended into chaos. We started making poor decisions with the ball again—perhaps we were trying too hard to win. The final five to ten minutes looked more like a basketball game than a football match.”
