Arsenal are ready to attack the market as they seek more firepower following an injury to Kai Havertz as Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso addresses Rodrygo's future
Arsenal's business has slowed in recent weeks but Mikel Arteta remains determined to add to his squad before transfer deadline day.
A number of his new summer recruits made their Premier League debuts in the opening weekend win at Manchester United, but there is still a desire to add even more firepower despite the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke both joining.
Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo have been among the names discussed as Arteta looks to create a squad capable of ending their top flight drought. Crystal Palace are determined to keen hold of their leading light, although he looked as if he may have been saying goodbye to the Eagles at the weekend.
Real meanwhile have a decision to make regarding Rodrygo, who has a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on his situation. Arsenal have seen rivals Liverpool massively invest in their squad and their own recruitment is unlikely to have ended. Here's the latest news involving the Gunners.
Havertz injury changes plan
Kai Havertz is set to be out of action for Arsenal after picking up a fresh injury - which is poised to push the club into the market. The German spent a long period of last season on the sidelines with a serious hamstring injury.
He has since recovered and made a substitute appearance in the weekend's victory in Manchester, but the versatile attacker is now facing another period out. The Athletic claims that the German has picked up an issue with his knee and did not take part in an open training session hosted at the Emirates on Wednesday.
Assessments are at an early stage and it is unclear over how long Havertz could be out for, but it has caused Arsenal to launch an emergency transfer plan. The Gunners are now keen to add another forward to bolster their attacking ranks with a lack of depth a major problem last term.
Alonso speaks out on Rodrygo
Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso insists "nothing is happening" with Rodrygo despite leaving him on the bench throughout their opening win over Osasuna at the weekend. The Brazilian has been linked with the Bernabeu exit door all summer and Arsenal have been amongst those most heavily linked.
He has fallen down the pecking order following Carlo Ancelotti's departure and was only a peripheral figure throughout Real's Club World Cup effort with his selection woes continuing.
Alonso though maintains that he will look to Rodrygo later in this season, playing down the importance of leaving him out. The ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss told reporters: “Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It’s just a game, this was my decision."
Trossard to pen new deal
Leandro Trossard has reached an agreement over a new contract with Arsenal, but it won't keep him at the club any longer, albeit his pay will increase.
The Belgian winger had just two years remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and as a result he had been linked with a move away from North London amid reported interest from Saudi Arabia. But it now appears likely that he will stay with Arsenal for the time being.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed a new contract with Trossard that will see him secure a ‘significant pay rise’. But the deal will not be extended beyond its current expiration of 2027.
