Kevin De Bruyne introduced himself to Italy by scoring in his first match for new side Napoli following his move from Manchester City this summer. The Belgian, celebrated with a short message in English: “Way to start!” after his cheeky free kick in the second half helped the side win 2-0 against Sassuolo.
Meanwhile, as De Bruyne lights up the Serie A, Olise has also been impressive over the past year after scoring 17 goals and registering 21 assists in all competitions in 2024-25. This was followed up with three goals and two assists in the Club World Cup and two goals against RB Leipzig in their opening Bundesliga clash.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s DFB-Pokal first-round clash with Wehen Wiesbaden on Wednesday, Kompany praised Olise and compared him to De Bruyne who he worked with at Manchester City many years ago.
“Michael's numbers aren't my priority. But I do expect him to get better and make strides. I've also seen the development of such talents as a player, perhaps comparable to Kevin De Bruyne.
“What's important is what they do every day in training. I see total calm in him. Now he's won something, but that's in the past.”
Reports have suggested that Olise has a release clause, which will become active in 2026. Sitting alongside Kompany, sporting director Christoph Freund, declined to comment on that and suggested that he is a long term asset.
“We generally don't talk about contract details. Our aim is that Michael will stay at FC Bayern for a long time. He's an exceptional talent.”
