Giannini: Italy produce excellent young players - but they need a chance

Giannini insists Italy are still producing great, young players - but they need the opportunity to play.

He told Tuttosport: "I go against the grain: the talent is still there, just look at the results of the youth national teams. But there's a problem: when these kids reach 18 or 20, the coaches don't launch them and make them play consistently. So they end up in the lower leagues or get lost.

"I've coached in Serie C and Serie D: even the rules regarding young players are of little use..."

Regarding the reason why youth regulations in Italy aren't effective, Giannini explained that young players are deployed solely out of obligation, not out of the coaches' true conviction.

He added that, as a result, these players often end up in marginal roles, such as on the wings, despite his belief that there are "plenty" of talented players.
