Club statement:

FC Midtjylland has secured Philip Billing on a five-year contract valid until the summer of 2030. The 29-year-old midfielder is moving to the club after a stint in the Premier League and a championship in Serie A with Napoli.

Philip Billing is returning home to Denmark after more than ten years in English football. With over 150 Premier League matches to his name, he brings significant international experience to FC Midtjylland.

A PROFILE THAT LIFTS THE EVERYDAY

Sports Director Kristian Bach Bak is pleased with the approach of the Danish midfielder:

– When a player with experience from the Premier League and Serie A chooses FC Midtjylland, it confirms the direction we are on. Philip is in his prime footballing age and precisely matches the way we want to play – and the culture we insist on.

– He brings a higher level, a new intensity to our training environment and will be a catalyst for the players who need to take the next step. We can use his international experience to further develop ourselves and achieve even more – in Denmark and in Europe.

– Philip's approach is a clear expression of our ambitions. We want to move forward, we want to challenge ourselves, and we want to pursue new results. That's why we invest in quality and culture, which can elevate both the team and the club.

If one dives into the game on the field, the sports director says:

– Philip is a versatile midfielder who has both the running power to cover from box to box and the technique to set the game. He can fill all the central roles – both as a 6, 8, and 10, and we are convinced that he will deliver a great impact, he states.

THE PERFECT MOMENT

29-year-old Billing has roots in the West Jutland football environment from his childhood years at Jerne IF and Esbjerg fB and has made his mark in English football over the past decade. Among other things, he has scored against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United in the Premier League and contributed with a goal in a crucial top match for Napoli on the way to winning the Serie A title in the spring.

Now he looks forward to representing FC Midtjylland:

– It's fantastic to finally have it in place – long awaited. I'm proud to be able to call myself an FC Midtjylland player, and I'm happy to be back in Denmark.

– Midtjylland has shown a consistent interest in me in recent years, and I feel that now is the right time. I've always thought that if I were to go to the Superliga one day, I should still have many years at the highest level left in me. This is the perfect time.

– This club just makes sense. The commitment and interest they've shown in me – combined with the community, the family feeling, and the way the people in the club are.

– It will always feel strange to go home after 13 years abroad – but there comes a time, and the right time is now. The years have passed quickly, with many experiences and friendships along the way, but now a new exciting chapter begins.

LOOKS FORWARD TO THE RESPONSIBILITY

The new midfielder comes to the club with the ambition to lead:

– I'm coming to a young, fantastic team that has a lot going for it. I'm looking forward to the responsibility that awaits me – and I believe we can achieve great things. That's why I'm here.

– I come with a wealth of experience – and I'll need it now. There are some really talented players here, and I'll try to help them as much as I can, both on and off the pitch. As a young player, I myself had teammates who meant a great deal to me – among them Jonas Lössl – who with his experience has helped me a great deal, says Philip Billing.

STORE DRØMME

Philip Billing and FC Midtjylland share the big dreams:

– This club dreams big, and one must do so too, because otherwise one achieves nothing – and that's also the reason I've come here.

– Now I have to find my place in the squad and work hard so I make the team. But we have to set big goals already this season. We want to win the gold, hopefully the Cup, and go for it in Europe.

– You've seen teams you didn't believe could go far actually go really far – and maybe even win a European tournament. I can't see why FC Midtjylland shouldn't one day be able to do the same, says Philip Billing.

Billing won Serie A in 2025 with Napoli. He has played 152 games in the Premier League for Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth and was a key player in the second-to-last promotion in 2021/22. For Denmark, he has five senior international games and 12 U21 international games.
