Club statement:

U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces having finalized the registration of player Nemanja Matić until June 30, 2026, with automatic renewal for the following season upon the occurrence of certain contractual conditions.

A Serbian midfielder with great international experience, charisma, and quality, nicknamed “The Wolf”, Matić brings leadership, temperament, and a successful career to the black-and-green team. Born in Šabac on August 1, 1988, he grew up as a footballer in the youth sectors of Red Star and Partizan before taking his first steps among the “big” clubs with Jedinstvo Ub, the black-and-green team of Kolubara, and VSS Košice, the latter club with which he shone until earning his first national team call-ups.

In 2009, he arrives in England at Chelsea, where he immediately wins his first FA Cup. After a stint at Vitesse and three solid seasons with Benfica, he returns to the Blues in 2014 under the guidance of José Mourinho, with whom he wins two Premier Leagues, one League Cup and accumulates over 120 appearances in the league and European competitions. In 2017, he moves to Manchester United, making his debut in the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid and becoming a mainstay of the Red Devils with over 120 appearances. In 2022, he transfers to Roma in Italy, reuniting with Mourinho and having a high-level season that culminates in the Europa League final. Subsequently, he dons the jerseys of Rennes and Lyon in France.

His career boasts extraordinary numbers and trophies. Among these, 251 appearances in the Premier League, 107 matches in UEFA European competitions, 48 appearances with the Serbian national team, and a series of highly valuable trophies such as 3 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 EFL Cup, 1 Portuguese League Championship, 3 Portuguese League Cups, and 1 Slovak Cup. Matić has also been named Serbian Footballer of the Year on two occasions.

With a unique record, the Serbian midfielder is the most decorated player ever to don the black and green jersey.

From the entire Neroverde family, welcome Nemanja!
