The Italian Football Federation's situation is currently quite absurd, and this is certainly not what Italian football needed to see after yet another World Cup failure. The federation has been temporarily taken over, with Giovanni Malagò, who was elected president in June, serving as interim commissioner. The reason for this temporary takeover is that Malagò lacked the required registration qualifications, so he was removed from his post, even though he effectively continues to lead the federation as interim commissioner.

As the new Italian Football Federation election approaches, speculation has emerged about potential competition Malagò might face if he seeks re-election: former Milan and Monza executive Adriano Galliani.
Journalist Daniele Garbo discussed this possibility on TMW Radio: "This would be very surprising, because it would mean that the alliance that initially pushed Malagò into the presidency is now willing to throw him overboard, as they clearly didn't get the results they wanted. This kind of thing only happens in Italy, and it also shows the current state of our football."
